Covenant House
The Covenant House is a youth homeless shelter in Toronto that we partner with and contribute towards. As a council, our members collect and donate gift cards, sanitary items, books, toys, stationary and more. We then deliver them to the shelter to help homeless youth during the cold holiday season.

Operation Christmas Child
Every holiday season, UYC participates in Operation Christmas Child, a tradition dedicated to giving back to children in need around the world. We collect a variety of essential items including sanitary products, school supplies, toys and books. Our members then work together to pack these donations into individual shoeboxes, transforming simple items into gifts of hope. Samaritan's Purse then donates the shoeboxes to over 100 countries worldwide, allowing children to receive holiday presents.

Old Tyme Christmas
As part of the annual Old Tyme Christmas celebrations on Unionville Main Street, UYC hosts free public skating and complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn at Crosby Community Centre for families and children. You'll also spot us in the Christmas Parade, where we hand out candy canes and show off our own decorated float.

Master's Pantry
Master's Pantry is a biweekly to monthly community food bank organized by the Unionville Alliance Church. Our members consistently support this initiative by volunteering our time and help towards running the charity by handing out canned/packaged food as well as fresh meat, produce and dairy to contribute to alleviating food insecurity in the York Region community.

Hampers of Hope
Every November and December, UYC partners with the Unionville Alliance Church for their special Christmas "Hampers of Hope" campaign. This event allows us to spread holiday joy and support families in need. UYC hands out hampers filled with everything needed for a wonderful Christmas dinner along with gifts, ensuring more families can enjoy a warm and festive holiday season. Last year, we helped over 1100 people with 235 hampers!

Markham Idol
Markham Idol is the biggest event hosted by Unionville Youth Council where youth singers have the opportunity to showcase their musical talent. Youth ages 8-17 can audition for panel of judges and the best will proceed to the final round. Competitors will showcase their talent and winners will earn a special prize. All proceeds will be donated to a charity of our choice.

Tree Planting
Every year, UYC is proud to partner with the York Regional Police for our annual tree planting initiative. Together, we contribute towards environmental causes by planting trees at Austin Drive Park in Unionville. In previous years, we've planted over 250 trees that contributed towards a healthier and greener Markham for everyone.

30 Hour Famine
The 30 Hour Famine is a fundraiser that UYC is involved in to raise awareness about world hunger. For 30 hours, our members give up something important to them—whether it's food, their phone or another daily essential. During this time, UYC also collects donations to donate towards World Vision and support in ending hunger around the world.

Union Villa Long-Term Care
UYC coordinates with Union Villa, a long-term care home for seniors, where our members organize activities for seniors living there. We visit, chat, sing carols, play games and send greeting cards to seniors to brighten their days.

Leadership Conference
The Leadership Conference is an annual meeting exclusive for UYC members, giving us the opportunity to grow as a leader and develop as individuals. There, we enjoy a pizza lunch, participate in activities and listen to guest speakers across York Region discuss important topics like organization, management, post-secondary, mental health, resumes, communication and more to build skills and gain leadership experience.

Hockey with Heart
In partnership with Hockey with Heart - Hockey Helps the Homeless, UYC participates in an initiative that raises funds and awareness for homeless individuals in the community. We assemble hundreds of packages by attaching bags and letters to send out to the community to collect donations.

Markham Youth Expo
UYC takes part in Markham Mayor's Youth Council's annual event. There, we promote UYC to the youth of Markham in an effort to continue to grow our council as well as run fun activities like trivia for children to win prizes and candy.

Member Socials
Throughout the year, UYC hosts member socials in addition to our monthly meetings. Our socials give our members a chance to meet each other, build friendships and have a fun time. In the past, we've hosted member ice skating, bicycle riding, holiday parties and bowling.
